Holy offerings
It doesn’t look like it. The girls behave normally – except for Claire and Susan – and your sisters continue to play their part. You don’t worry as much about Megan as you do with Millie. Megan has lived with her feelings for a long time – just like you – and knows how to deal with her desires. For Millie on the other hand, it is all new and you are not sure whether she is up to the new situation. But you want to take it slow and you don’t want to give them a lecture at what you hope is the happiest day of their lives.
Otherwise you are feeling fantastic. Everyone in the house notices that your mood is at its peak and luckily think it’s because of the birthday. You spend the day almost like yesterday. Millie and Megan exude a happiness, that almost drives you crazy. They hug everyone who stands in their way and Carrie asks you if that’s normal. You just mean that it has always been like this, but the upcoming politician only looks at you with a smile. To avoid her eyes, you start to set the table for the celebration. The cake the friends of Millie baked comes in the middle. Drinks, snacks and dishes are arranged around it. Emma helps you arrange the cutlery. When everything is ready, Megan leads her little sister and everyone else stands behind the table.
God how you hate singing in front of an audience! In your room alone you roar to loud music like a caveman, but here… You just hope that no one will see through your suffering while you play the bass voice in the girls’ choir more badly than right. At last this hell is over, you hug your sister long and raise her cheerfully from her legs. You are always amazed at how light and fragile Millie must appear in your arms. After the song, Millie gets her presents from her friends and you take the opportunity to separate yourself from the group and observe the situation. Her happy laugh fills the room and you are satisfied that she is openly contacting her friends. Your mom said it was important and you agree with her. The thought strikes you that you might actually be jealous now that Millie is starting to enjoy her life again.
“The bird flies out of the nest,” you murmur into your beard. But you can also see Millie grabbing her wrist again and again together with a whide smile that always is followed by the try to cover her tru feelings by hugging one of her friends instead of you. Then you feel Megan next to you. She also watches the group of girls who have now formed around Millie. And you know that there will never be any reason to be jealous again.
“I still can’t believe it” she says quietly. She is so close to you that you can feel her shoulder rubbing against yours, but not close enough to get attention from the others you hope. Nevertheless, a shiver runs down your spine. “I’ve never seen Millie so happy.” She looks at you. “And that’s your merit.” Megan giggles next to you. “But you already know that from now on she will sleep with you every night?”
“You can do that now too,” you whisper and Megan giggles again.
“That would take mum to the grave.”
“She’ll survive,” you reassure her. “That I sleep with her two daughters, that will give her the rest.” Megan looks at you in surprise.
“I didn’t expect you to do that now, Mr. Lynchwood.” She lightly bump you in the side. But there is a joy in her face that can only come from you. Suddenly you realize what you mean to the girls of your dreams. A smile that only you can create, an expression of something that only connects the three of you. A bond that keeps you together wherever you are. Don’t cry now…
“The temptations are just too big.” Megan blushes a little and straightens her hair. Your eyes fall on the other girls. Claire pulls out of the group and comes over to you with a plate in her hand. On the way she looks closely at her hands balancing the piece of cake on the plate. Before you can say anything to her, Megan goes ahead.
“Well Claire, how are you after yesterday evening?”
“Good,” the girl mumbles, avoiding your sight. You look at your sister and your looks tell you what the other is thinking.
“I’ve already scolded Finn for treating you and the girls so mean.” Clair wants to say something, but her tongue lets her down. She just looks at Megan apologetically.
“I-It was nothing… honestly. I… I wanted to apologize for my sister’s behavior yesterday. Millie said it was nothing… but we… behaved stupidly.”
“Oh, I don’t find that so bad.” Megan pats the smaller girl’s shoulder, which looks as if she would like to sink into the ground. You can remember what it was like when you had the same thoughts about your boner. Better times… to hell no! “But why don’t you say that to Finn, he started the whole thing?” She points her thumb at you and Claire turns towards you like a robot with her head bowed. The poor thing takes a deep breath and says without looking at you: “Sorry Finn that we treated Millie with too little respect.”
“Oh, isn’t she cute Biggie?” Megan whispers and pets you from the side. You don’t really know what to feel. You look over to the table from which laughter is still ringing in your ears. Millie is just laughing with Susan about a story from your youth, but Denise looks far too conspicuously in your direction. And Susan often turns her eyes towards you. She tries harder to hide her curiosity… or worries.
“Uh, thanks Claire. But you didn’t do anything.” You look at the older one of your sisters. “That’s why I let you watch.” You grin slightly, but Claire doesn’t notice. She is still looking at the piece of chocolate cake as if it were the most important thing in the world.
“Yes I know. And that was also… very…” She breaks off and takes a deep breath to cheer herself up. “In any case, I want to apologize for Susan. We are not having an easy time at the moment and she is going through a difficult phase.”
“Oh, don’t we all have Finn?” Megan asks you and plays the daydreamer. You know what pictures she has in her head, you have them too.
“It’s okay Claire. I forgive you.” You look at the table, at which two pairs of eyes not let you out of sight. Millie has also noticed and is a little surprised. When Denise and Susan see your looks, they flip back to Millie and continue the celebration. “And your sister too. Everyone makes mistakes.“ You pat her on the shoulder. I, Finn the first, hereby pardon you from your sins. You are sanctified in my holy name. You have to smile a little, but the power you feel inside of you feels good too. Claire turns, now with a blissful smile on her lips. But then she remembers something and jumps back.
“Oh yes, I brought this for you.” She hands you the plate with both arms outstretched. With her head bowed, you can’t help but feel like Hernan Cortes with the Aztecs. Now they even come with offerings… After Claire has returned to the table and brought the good news to her sister, Megan looks at you conspiratorially.
“So I could get used to it.” Then she turns to you. “If she only knew what you did to Millie and me…”
“No more words,” you call Megan calmly with mock severity. She raises her hands soothingly and purses her lips.
“I’m just saying…” She sticks her tongue out and snorts at you. You try to grab it, but she ducks and runs away laughing. That draws people’s attention to you. You ask Millie what she wants to do during the day and she thinks for a moment. Then she looks at you apologetically.
“I have a bad feeling about this…”
